OUR REGION
Nemea is one of the most important wine-producing regions of Greece, known for its rich history in viticulture and wine production. Its land has been closely connected with vine cultivation for thousands of years.

The region is located in northeastern Peloponnese,
a short distance from Corinth, and is characterized by its unique natural landscape. The extensive vineyards create a unique environment that combines natural beauty with agricultural tradition.

The history of Nemea goes back to antiquity. According to mythology, this is where the first labor of Heracles took place, when he managed to defeat the legendary Nemean lion.

The region was also home to the Nemean Games, one of the most important athletic and religious institutions of ancient Greece. These games were part of the Panhellenic competitions along with those of Olympia and Delphi.

  Since antiquity

Nemea has been known for its excellent wines. Archaeological findings prove that viticulture was a key element of the economy and daily life of its inhabitants.

Today, the region is considered the largest Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) wine-producing zone in Greece. Nemea PDO wine is one of the most internationally recognized Greek wines.

The Agiorgitiko variety is the most characteristic of the region. It produces wines with deep red color, rich aromas, and excellent balance.

The climate of Nemea is Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot summers. These conditions favor vine cultivation and contribute to the production of high-quality grapes.

The microclimate of the region varies significantly even over short distances. These differences create a variety of flavor profiles in the wines of the area.

The vineyards spread over large areas
and are irrigated by the Asopos River, which contributes significantly to the fertility of the land. Today, Nemea is an important wine tourism destination. Many visitors come every year to explore local wineries and taste the region’s wines.

The wine tradition continues strongly to this day, with local producers preserving the heritage of the region and evolving it through modern production methods.
